East View of the Iron Bridge... – unrecorded
Attributed to Dawson's Low Ford Pottery
This is a variation of Baker's bridge 7, with some notable differences. There are additional ships and cliffs seen under the bridge. The figure of 'Genius', on the left, has what looks like a beehive on her shoulder, representing industry. Also, under the transfer, are the words 'Nil Desprandum Auspice Deo' from Sunderland's coat of arms, which broadly translate as 'Don't despair in God we trust'. It is similar to Edward Barker's bridge view (bridge 20). The frog is typical of items attributed to Dawson's Pottery.
A later imprint from the same transfer plate with coloured over-enamels. This mug doesn't have a frog.
